Back in May, Dell EMC announced Dell EMC Cloud for Microsoft Azure Stack, a new, turnkey, hybrid cloud platform that offers a simple and fast path for implementing and sustaining a hybrid cloud based on Microsoft Azure Stack. The new platform helps organizations standardizing on the Microsoft Azure ecosystem to accelerate their digital transformation with automated IT service delivery for traditional and cloud-native applications.

As a result, organizations can better engage with their customers, reduce time to market for new services, and free-up resources to focus on adding business value.

Why Dell EMC for Microsoft Azure Stack?

The new Dell EMC Cloud for Microsoft Azure Stack brings Dell EMC’s leadership in worldwide cloud infrastructure with its long history of partnering with Microsoft, which includes shipping the industry’s first Microsoft-based hybrid cloud all the way back in October 2015. Plus, we’re pretty good at this cloud thing – according to IDC, Dell EMC was No. 1 in the worldwide cloud infrastructure market for 2016 with $5.7 billion in revenue and 17.6% market share.

Interoperability between public and private cloud resources has quickly become not just a “nice to have” but actually is a top requirement for many organizations’ IT infrastructures. The turnkey Dell EMC Cloud for Microsoft Azure Stack delivers a consistent experience across Azure – whether it’s Azure public cloud or your own on-premises Azure Stack.

We’ve engineered our Cloud for Microsoft Azure Stack with our industry leading Dell EMC PowerEdge servers and Dell EMC Networking and to deliver a hybrid cloud platform that is built, sustained and supported as one.

And it doesn’t stop there, as we’ll offer cool Dell EMC IP add-on options for backup, encryption and more!

What Can You Do Today?

Since Azure Stack isn’t readily available yet, how can you take advantage of Dell EMC Cloud for Azure Stack today? Well, there are a couple ways.

You can start with our single node Developer Edition (for test and development) RIGHT NOW. Begin your Azure Stack journey with a small capital outlay and continue to use Dell EMC Azure Stack single node systems for test and development into the future. Plus, customers can easily update to the GA code once Microsoft releases Azure Stack so you won’t be starting from scratch.

But wait – that’s not all! Earlier this year, we began partnering with Microsoft on offering a select group of customers worldwide to be part of our Early Adopter Program. Based on the response we’ve received, we’ve decided to extend the ability to order to additional customers via our Dell EMC Early Order Program for Microsoft Azure Stack (multi-node). These customers will be perfectly positioned to expand and accelerate their Azure cloud environments as quickly as possible post-GA.

Ok that sounds cool but why should customers and partners jump on the bandwagon right now? First, to get a step up on the competition by being among the first to go operational with Azure Stack. Secondly, Dell EMC will ensure that your single or multi-node Azure Stack platform will be ready to go, validated and tested, when Azure Stack is generally available.

Why is this important?

We’re tightly integrated with Microsoft to ensure we test every software, firmware, and drive with the latest code from Microsoft before it ships. This avoids any last minute hiccups to the infrastructure on-site and potential risk of updating something that is either untested or done incorrectly. With all the pre-engineering done in our factory and minimal time on-site, your hardware warranty starts close to when your system is operational and avoids any disruptions to the deployment process and enables us to spend as little time on-site and hand over the keys to you ASAP (matter of days).

Ready to get started? The Dell EMC Cloud for Microsoft Azure Stack is orderable now. Contact your Dell EMC Rep today!

Adopting a hybrid cloud strategy as a means to achieving digital transformation can be a very difficult endeavor, often IT and the organization they support have processes, procedures, personnel and tools that are not aligned for optimal cloud brokerage and consumption.

The most common hurdles to overcome are complexity of disaggregate apps and tools, legacy IT vs cloud competency, confidence that anytime, anywhere, always-on availability is achievable and that the cost of acquisition is affordable.

Enterprise IT organizations are expected to deliver a consistent end-user experience but most public and private cloud implementations are not reflective of one another making all phases of the life-cycle; acquisition, deployment, operation, maintenance more of a kludge, than a repeatable, predictable, positive experience.

Today we announced the new Dell EMC Cloud for Microsoft Azure Stack, a platform specifically intended to mitigate the risks associated with hybrid cloud adoption so customers can realize their vision for hybrid cloud success and digital transformation.

The platform is quite an achievement, as it takes what would normally be a very complicated planning, design, acquisition and deployment experience and makes it genuinely simple by providing a turn-key, IaaS ready platform the day of deployment with PaaS capabilities in its future as development continues.

The platform is built on a proven hyper-converged foundation using the Dell EMC PowerEdge R730XD and S-Series switches as a backbone but more importantly the platform has many years of customer inspired design, engineering, testing and update process rigor behind it. Our history of partnership with Microsoft when it comes to cloud and advanced virtualization solutions is extensive and unique. Dell EMC is the only Microsoft Azure Stack partner to collaboratively engineer cloud solutions:  CPS-Premium Private Cloud, Private Cloud for Microsoft Fast Track, Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft CPS-Standard, Ready-nodes and now Dell EMC Cloud for Microsoft Azure Stack.

With Microsoft Azure Stack the APIs, tools, apps and services that are behind the firewall are consistent with, reflective of, and interact seamlessly with the customer’s Azure public cloud experience. This means that the customer cloud journey no longer needs to end in disappointment due to unforeseen deployment and life-cycle operation complexity, or project cost over-runs.  The Dell EMC Cloud for Microsoft Azure Stack delivers on the promise of a predictable, repeatable, Azure consistent experience whether accessing and writing to Azure public resources or those behind the datacenter firewall.

For Microsoft Azure customers who want to begin their hybrid cloud journey today using Dell EMC Cloud for Microsoft Azure Stack the place to start is with the “single-node” PowerEdge R630 for development and testing. Dell EMC began making it available in March and will continue to support it over the life of the platform. Customers can use “single-node” to test and develop on generally available software, and gain insight into the administration and tenant experience.  They can also explore what DevOps and infrastructure-as-code may mean to them as they discover how Azure Resource Manager templates work. Developers can play with PowerShell and Visual studio on validated hardware without disrupting production environments, and at minimal acquisition cost. Customers can download the TP3 software from Microsoft from their website here and find instructions here.

With the Dell EMC Cloud for Microsoft Azure Stack there is no need to learn new tools to support new services implementations or to administrate, automate, and orchestrate lifecycle maintenance and operations tasks. Once a customer understands how to use the tools within Azure public cloud, they know how to use Azure Stack.  Dell EMC provides add-on services for application backup, recovery, archiving and security, and enterprise level single-contact support.

No more kludge, no more complexity.

Dell EMC Senior VP, Peter Cutts discusses the announcement and what it means for customers here.

Applications are becoming the new face of business. Customers are expecting their favorite brands to create new, intelligent interactions and digital experiences on a daily basis.   To stand out from the competition, enterprises must embrace development models that allow them to rapidly deliver applications, provide constant improvements, and bring new, differentiated levels of service to the market. Many enterprises are struggling to make the transition to this model because planning, designing and building a custom solution for cloud-native applications can be a complex project. That’s why EMC’s Federation created the fully engineered Native Hybrid Cloud (NHC) solution – to set your business ahead of the rest.

Native Hybrid Cloud is a turnkey developer solution designed to accelerate and simplify cloud native application development and deployment, speeding business innovation and time to market. Native Hybrid Cloud integrates and delivers a developer platform (PaaS) and infrastructure services cloud-native(IaaS) in as little as two days, rapidly available for developing cloud-native
applications. It brings developers a rich set of services for deploying, scaling and managing the application life cycle while providing the needed visibility, control and financial insights to IT. NHC helps enterprises realize the promise of a DevOps model by connecting and simplifying how developers and IT operators build, deploy and operate applications through an “it just works” experience.   EMC has invested thousands of engineering hours designing, integrating and testing Native Hybrid Cloud so organizations can quickly deliver cloud-native applications eliminating the cost, time, complexity, or uncertainty associated with developing an in-house solution.

Native Hybrid Cloud is a turnkey developer solution that reduces the weeks and months once needed to deploy an application to just days by integrating Pivotal Cloud Foundry’s cloud-native platform with a choice of on-prem and off-prem infrastructure-as-a-service options – all with the same consistent experience. In addition, all Native Hybrid Cloud components are sustained as one – including single contact support and upgrades across the entire solution. New features are tested and validated across all components, reducing the time and risk associated with upgrades.

Developers can push new code into production within minutes or scale applications with a single command with no effort wasted on building or configuring the environment. IT Operations gains full solution visibility and control through automated built-in features that monitor, manage and re-start system components. Native Hybrid Cloud maintains high availability for all running applications and continuously tracks application health with minimum operator intervention while on-going data protection provides back-up and recovery of applications and components in case of failure. Robust monitoring and reporting capabilities link application to infrastructure consumption allowing IT Operations to proactively improve application performance and capacity planning while showback and chargeback reporting deliver cost transparency.

Built on top of VCE VxRack System 1000 hyper-converged infrastructure, it delivers a robust, on-premises modern developer platform by integrating Pivotal Cloud Foundry with a choice of OpenStack and soon VMware Photon Platform. In addition, with VMware vSphere delivered on VxRack System 1000 with Flex Nodes, enterprises can extend what they already have in production, leveraging industry-leading capabilities and full compatibility with existing tools leveraging in-house expertise. Customers who are looking to run cloud native apps off-premises can choose a managed offering from Virtustream or push apps to Virtustream, vCloud Air, AWS or Azure as an endpoint for Native Hybrid Cloud sharing a common developer experience and management capability with on-premises Native Hybrid Cloud.

Here’s a demonstration of how it works: (embed tech teams demos)

Now that we know developers can get the resources they need to push out applications on-demand, what does this mean in the long run?

cloud-nativeAccelerated development and deployment lifecycles of cloud-native applications enable organizations to deliver differentiated value and business outcomes uninterruptedly. In the past, pushing out a new cloud-native application could have taken up to months where now it can be done in merely hours.

When code can seamlessly be pushed out as soon as it is written, IT can focus on delivering game-changing services that provide compelling customer experiences.

BOTTOM LINE….

To achieve success in a rapidly changing digital era, enterprises must innovate faster, empower developers and accelerate IT operations. Native Hybrid Cloud is a turnkey developer platform designed to do just that! Don’t build what you can buy!
